What is Albany 2030: Your City, Your Future?
Albany 2030: Your City, Your Future is a process to create the City of Albany's first Comprehensive Plan. The process is just getting started, and will offer many opportunities for the public to participate online and in person. Albany 2030 is called "Your City, Your Future" because the plan will be based on your input, ideas, and vision for the future.
What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A Comprehensive Plan is a guiding document that helps the City plan for future change. A Comprehensive Plan is an instrument used by decision-makers in a community to establish policies that make decisions regarding physical development and other aspects of future change. The plan guides other decisions such as zoning, economic development, transportation investment, and City policies about subjects like sustainability. Comprehensive Plans are general, long-range, and based on public input.
Why do we need a Comprehensive Plan? How is a Comprehensive Plan different from other plans Albany already has?
The City of Albany needs a Comprehensive Plan to help the City make decisions on a day-to-day basis that will affect the future of the City. The Comprehensive Plan is just that, comprehensive, and provides guidance for decisions throughout the City and in all City departments. Its comprehensive nature is what makes it different from other, more specific plans, such as Neighborhood Plans, that the City is currently working on or already has in place. Those existing plans will be pulled together under the Comprehensive Plan "umbrella".
Who is involved in Albany 2030?
The City Department of Development and Planning is working with a team of consultants who have experience in various aspects of developing Comprehensive Plans. But one of the most important aspects of Comprehensive Planning is extensive input from City residents, so we hope that YOU will be involved. Click on "Participate" to find out how.
Why should I participate?
If you live, work, or play in Albany or the surrounding area, the Comprehensive Plan WILL affect you, so it is vital that you participate. We are asking for your local knowledge, insight, values and vision for the future. A Comprehensive Plan should be based upon the values, needs, and goals of the people that will be affected by it. The plan will provide guidance for future decisions that will shape the City--make sure your voice is heard!
How can I participate?

You can participate online, via mobile devices, or in person and can provide your thoughts, pictures, video, art, stories, memories, goals and aspirations for Albany via any of these participation channels.
